Wales 2008

We’re back from our weeklong sojourn to Wales. We stayed in North Wales, at Haven in Hafyn-y-mor, where Elizabeth fell in love with the carousel ride at the Tiger Club. The Weather was ok, warm, sunny mainly, but it did rain twice which isn’t bad considering it was Wales.

Places we visited over the week included Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch on the island of Anglesey, Canaervon Castle, Pwihelli, Dolgellau, Betswy Coed, Portmadoch, Abersoch, Mount Snowdon, Llanberis, Barmouth, Shell Island, Aberystwyth, Conwy, Llandudno, Bangor, and just about anywhere else that was accessible by car!

All in all a good week, as you can see (click to enlarge pics).

My own tracks and remixes.

Finally, the moment none of you have been waiting for, a collection of my own tracks, and my own remixes. A 12 track compilation from the shockingly bad through to the 'actually, not that bad'.
Info below (for what it's worth).

01 Christopher Lloyd - Expression (Demo)
This was one of the first things I made, using an old NWA loop and various effects. I was going to spruce it up now that I have access to more instrumentation and also know how to use the software more effectively. I just haven’t got round to it……

02 Public Enemy No.1 (Remix)
………..and this was one of the first remixes I ever did. I had little software. I basically just had a multi-tracker, so everything is made up from samples. There’s loads in there. Merzbow/Coldcut/Faith No More and many more. Crude but Effective.

03 Jesus Jones – Culture Vulture (Remix)
I had the multi-track files to this song as part of their remix competition. The original is fairly plodding, I basically spruced it up and tried to make it a bit more garage sounding, a bit more JSBX. The band said it gave it “extra bollocks” which was nice.

04 Nine Inch Nails – Capital G (Remix)
The whole Year Zero album was made available as multi-track files, so I went to town and remixed the whole album over a 6 month period. With this track I tried to emphasize the glam rock aspect to the track, and brought the horns to the fore.

05 Christopher Lloyd - Horticultural Incineration of Polar Wrappings

This started out in life as a Nine Inch Nails remix, I set the beat up, liked it, and kept it. Worked on it a bit, put a dub-heavy bass sound to it, and voila

06 Klaxons – Atlantis to Interzone (Remix)
I just went mad with this one and tried to turn the drums into chaos itself. There’s a flaw in the track where it loses it’s timing for about .5 of a second, but it bugs the hell out of me, and I never got round to doing anything about it.

07 Radiohead – Nude (Remix)
It took a while to do this one, it went through many versions, from an all-out merzbow style noise assault, to a cheesy duet version with yours truly, to a version that included the duet and a cameo from the cloverfield monster, with additional tacky arguing, until I finally just stripped it all down, then added elements from my original noisy mix to the latter half, but toned down to good effect.

08 Nine Inch Nails – Ghosts IV (Remix)
From the new Nine Inch Nails album, again taken from multi-tracks. The whole album is available to do, but it’s 32 tracks, and I haven’t got time.

09 Scissor Sisters – Laura (Remix)
This started out as a one verse joke mix, but a few people heard it, liked it, and said I should go the whole hog, which I did. Someone likened the beat to a DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill beat, from back in the day, which I suppose it does to a degree.

10 Jamie Lidell – A Little bit of feel good (Remix)
This was just an instrumental, so I changed it from it’s original motown style jazz track, into a kind of stompy bass track. This one was slightly trick in so far as the tempo of the original isn’t consistent, it fluctuates here and there, which made it all the more fun to do.

11 Nine Inch Nails – The Great Destroyer (Remix)
The temptation of going mental on this one was huge, and I did to a degree indulge in that, but rather than go the whole noise route I tried to add extra guitar and melody into the verses, before deconstructing then reconstructing and elongating the noise breakdown.

12 Christopher Lloyd – You Flooded It
Again, a very early track, using mainly multi-tracking and a sample of Ving Rhames from the film Bringing out the dead. I had no sampler, just a video, pause button, audio leads, an amp, and mic input. This is quite old. As is the opener!

Enjoy (though, it'll be difficult).

The Second

I'll put up two mixtapes per month, lloyddhr mixtape which is more accessible, and chriscin mixtape which is slightly edgier!
Enjoy April's tuneage!
